The Akranes camping site is located in Kalmansvík, which is a scenic cove on the outskirts of town.

Akranes is an ideal destination for tourists, and there are numerous reasons to visit the town – all year round. The area offers many opportunities for fun and play, and there are not many townships that boast as many good locations for outdoor activities as Akranes – both within and around the town limits. One example is Mt. Akrafjall, which attracts a number of hikers every day. A walk by the sea to the sculpture Elín’s Seat is also an unforgettable experience, not least due to the wide variety of birdlife found there and the beautiful views in this area.

The lighthouses at Breið are immensely popular. There, visitors can enjoy various events, the scenic view and an exhibition of northern lights when weather conditions are favourable in winter.

Another popular recreational site is Langisandur, a Blue Flag certified shell-sand bathing beach. This is the place for sea swimmers, and the beach is frequently crowded on sunny days. There are more recreational sites in Akranes, including the town’s swimming pools, where the water comes from Deildartunguhver hot spring. Garðalundur offers many opportunities to have a good time, including barbecue, beach volleyball, disc golf, football and more. Next to Garðalundur is the 18-hole Garðavöllur golf course, including a great practice area.

Akranes has a wide variety of services for tourists and many shops and restaurants, while the frequent scheduled trips by Strætó bs. buses between Akranes and Reykjavík allow tourists to go on diverse day trips.
