Þórshöfn

Our campsite is located high in the village in a quiet and pleasant location. From there, all services in the village are within walking distance. The facilities at the campsite are good. There are tables and benches, toilet and shower facilities and good space for caravans and motorhomes with access to electricity.

The sports center has good facilities for fitness and recreation. There is a sports hall and gym, a 16.7×8 meter indoor swimming pool as well as two hot tubs and a sauna. The information center is also located there and various other facilities for tourists, e.g. a washing machine and dryer. There is a soccer field by the sports center where you can often find both teammates and opponents.

The heart of Þórshöfn beats in time with the tides, fishing and fish processing have been the main industries there throughout history. Therefore, it is particularly fun to stroll down to the harbor and take a look at human life. Then it is fun to walk around the park and greet Valdi the water carrier. Services in Þórshöfn are very good, there is a health center and pharmacy, a shop, a restaurant, a barbecue hut, a sports hall and swimming pool, a branch of Landsbankinn, a post office, a gas station, a car repair shop, etc. At the harbor park on Fjarðarvegur there are informative historical signs about the village.

Interesting places in the vicinity of Þórshöfn are, for example, Langanes, Bakkafjörður and Rauðanes. If you drive out to Langanes, it is a good idea to visit Sauðaneshúsið and go out to the magnificent viewing platform at Skoruvíkurbjörg. Going out to the deserted village of Skála and all the way out to Font makes the trip even better. Iceland air has daily flights from Reykjavík to Akureyri and from there you can fly to Vopnafjörður, Þórshöfn and Grímyjar with Norlandair, which operates a flight schedule 5 days a week. Akureyri Car Rental has a branch in Þórshöfn and offers, among other things, suitable cars for trips out to Langanes.
